Melissa J. Montgomery

Melissa and her husband, Steve, moved to Durango in 2022 from Evergreen, Colorado where they both grew up and raised their three children. Melissa is a graduate of the University of Colorado School of Law where she earned her Juris Doctorate degree. She worked as an attorney for 22 years, specializing in estate planning and trusts.

Since moving to Durango, Melissa has served as a legal guide/interpreter for clients of SASO (Sexual Assault Services Organization), helping them understand and navigate the legal process. In addition, she has volunteered at Southwest Safehouse, the Colorado Philanthropic Advisors Network, the Women’s Estate Planning Council and the PTA. She also taught the ‘Never Evers’ the joys and challenges of skiing at Purgatory.

Other activities and interests include: backcountry skiing all over the world; writing and reciting poetry; playing racquetball and pickleball; and hiking with her two dogs, Boomer and Winnie.
