SBDC consultations scheduled a week early
Noon to 4 p.m. at the Women's Resource Center
The Small Business
Development Center of Southwest Colorado will hold office hours for
one-on-one business consultations from noon to 4 p.m. on Monday, Aug.
30, at the Women's Resource Center. Consultations usually are held the
first Monday of each month, but September's session has been moved a
week early to accommodate the Labor Day Holiday. Each consultation
session lasts an hour. If you have a business idea you'd like to
discuss with an SBDC representative, call the Center at 247-1242 for an
appointment. We recommend that you have a fairly comprehensive idea for
your business with a business plan outline. You may also contact the
SBDC directly at 247-7009 or e-mail Lynn Asano for more information.

eading Edge Business Training sessions begin today
6 to 9 p.m. Thursdays through Nov. 18 at Fort Lewis College
A
comprehensive, 12-week intensive training program to help business
entrepreneurs and owners start and grow their businesses begins on
Thursday, Sept. 2. The NxLevelTM for Entrepreneurial Training Course
will introduce participants to the best practices in business while
guiding them through development of their own individualized,
comprehensive business plan for use to obtain funding for start-up or
expansion costs.

Classes will be from 6 to 9 p.m. on Thursdays through Nov. 18 in Room
110 of the Education and Business Hall on the Fort Lewis College
campus. Tuition is $280 for the entire session, $420 for college

Scholarship available: The Region 9 Economic
Development District will offer one scholarship for the training
course. Fill out the scholarship application form we have online here
or pick up a copy at the Small Business Development Center. Your
application should include a one-page written narrative describing your
business background, why you need the scholarship, and how it will help

WRC closed for Labor Day Weekend
The
Women's Resource Center will be closed from Friday, Sept. 3, through
Monday, Sept. 6, in observance of the Labor Day holiday. We will reopen
at 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7.

"Sharing Territory to Win More Business" topic of next BWN gathering
5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at the EcoCenter at the Powerhouse, Durango Discovery Museum
Claire Bradshaw,
executive director of the Durango Discovery Museum, will be the
featured speaker a the next WRC Business Women's Network gathering
scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7, at the EcoCenter
at the Powerhouse at the Durango Discovery Museum on 1333 Camino del
Rio. Bradshaw's presentation will be "Collaborate: Sharing Territory to
Win More Business." Refreshments will be served. Cost is free to
Women's Resource Center members and $5 all others. Call the Women's

Women's Resource Center Book Circle meets
5:30 p.m. at the Rochester Hotel
The Women's Resource Center Book Circle will discuss The 19th Wife
by David Ebershoff at its next meeting scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on
Wednesday, Sept. 8, at the Rochester Hotel. Participation is free and
open to any one who loves to read. Bring a snack or beverage to share.

Pro-se Divorce Clinic
6 to 8:30 p.m. at the Durango Public Library
The next
do-it-yourself divorce clinic will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday,
Sept. 13, at the Durango Public Library. Lawyers from the Southwest
Colorado Bar Association will explain how to fill out the legal papers
to file your divorce papers yourself, and free legal assistance may be
available to qualifying clients. The class is free. Divorce paperwork
may be picked up at the Women's Resource Center for $5 per packet. Call

Wild Women Writing
will meet from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 15, in Conference

women writers who want to share their work and hear the work of other

Connections TAMBO Respite Program
Community Connections’ Tambo
Respite Program seeks volunteers
to participate in a group respite time for children with special needs.
Tambo meets one Saturday per month at the Mason Center in Durango, and
the program needs volunteers to serve as “buddies”
during a fun evening of recreation and socialization. A criminal

Women's
Wellness Connection
WRC is a supporter of The Women's Wellness Connection
and encourages women to stay healthy. No woman should go without annual
breast and cervical screenings. To insure that every woman has access,
the Women's Wellness Connection program, offers Pap tests, mammograms
and clinical breast exams to women ages 40-64. These services are free
of charge to women who live in Colorado, are legal residents, have no
health insurance or are underinsured, and meet income qualifications.
The screenings are offered by Planned Parenthood and San Juan Basin
Health Department. To find out if they are eligible, women may call a
state hotline at 1-800-951-WELL or locally call B.J. Boucher with the
American Cancer Society at 259-3527.
