Answers to your money questions workshop scheduled for Wednesday

Paul Lemon, author of Ahoy, Money! How to Chart Your Course to Genuine Financial Freedom and Ten Weeks to Financial Awakening and owner of Integrated Financial Planning, PC,will offer a free workshop, "Straight Answers to Your Money Questions," scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 20, at the Durango Public Library.

“So many of us talk about being on a spiritual journey or living an authentic life, but how we deal with our money is where that journey meets the road,” says Lemon. “Unless we align our behavior around money with our deepest, authentic intentions, unless we bridge that gap, we’re going to continue to suffer and be unhappy in our lives.”

Financial Empowerment Retreat for Women offered Feb. 4-7

Financial Retreat PosterWRC Corporate Member Paul Lemon, owner of Integrated Financial Planning, and Melissa Mitchell-Blitch, owner of Vineyard Counseling, will team up to offer a Financial Empowerment Retreat for Women: Manage Your Life by Managing Your Money scheduled Feb 4-7 at the Durango Youth Hostel on Goeglein Gulch Road.

Cost is $395 for 12 interactive sessions, accommodations for three nights, seven meals, and a 10 Weeks to Financial Awakening workbook. WRC members who join as a group of five or more each will be offered a 10 percent discount on the three-day retreat. The retreat begins at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday with registration and ends by noon on Sunday.

The retreat will cover:

  • Self-sabotaging money attitudes and habits
  • Aligning financial choices with life goals and priorities
  • Setting up and using Quicken to successfully manage money
  • Support to continue the journey
Participants will walk through the financial plannning steps outlined in Lemon's 10 Weeks to Financial Awakening workbook and will explore the emotional issues, attitudes and habits that prevent them from aligning their financial decisions with their authentic selves with Mitchell-Blitch.

Dollar-A-Day seeks teenagers to participate in weekly sessions

dollar a dayThe Durango Community Education Department with Rocky Mountain Planned Parenthood seeks all girls ages 14 to 18 to participate in its "Dollar-A-Day" Program. The group meets from 4 to 5 p.m. every Tuesday at the Durango Recreation Center to discuss topics related to sexuality, healthy relationships, decision-making, communication and body image. Participants also have access to adult role models and participate in a community service project. The incentive program pays participants $1 a day for every day that they remain pregnancy free. Community Connections TAMBO Respite Program

Community Connections’ Tambo Respite Program seeks volunteers to participate in a group respite time for children with special needs. Tambo meets one Saturday per month at the Mason Center in Durango, and the program needs volunteers to serve as “buddies” during a fun evening of recreation and socialization. Women's Wellness Connection

WRC is a supporter of The Women's Wellness Connection and encourages women to stay healthy. No woman should go without annual breast and cervical screenings. To insure that every woman has access, the Women's Wellness Connection program, offers Pap tests, mammograms and clinical breast exams to women ages 40-64. These services are free of charge to women who live in Colorado, are legal residents, have no health insurance or are underinsured, and meet income qualifications. The screenings are offered by Planned Parenthood and San Juan Basin Health Department. To find out if they are eligible, women may call a state hotline at 1-800-951-WELL or locally call B.J. Boucher with the American Cancer Society at 259-3527.

SASO
Sexual Assault Services Organization (SASO) needs volunteers and is offering free training programs to learn about helping survivors heal, prevent child abuse, and inspire youth to intervene in potentially unsafe situations. Call 259-3074 to sign up.
