This month’s theme is “in the time of abundance” and help a woman in need. Participants are asked to bring a potluck dish to share, $25 for the donation fund, and a friend. They’ll then vote for the recipients of the money raised that evening. ALL proceeds directly benefit the recipients. NO money is used for administrative costs. Womenade funds have been used to help women with emergency car repairs, dental work, medical bills, and other emergencies.

Sparkle, sparkle every where, and happy laughter all around. That was the 2013 Girls Night Out, “Rhinestone Cowgirls and Diamond Divas: It’s a Bling Thing,” held Friday, Aug. 23, at LePlatt’s Pond in Bayfield.
More than 225 women attended to help raise $30,000 for the Women’s Resource Center. Durango Party Rental’s event tent, draped in diaphanous white curtains, served as the central point of the festivities with a 56-item live and silent auction tempting guests to shop while they sipped wine and champagne provided by W.J. Doyle Wine and Spirits.
Most delightful were the gasps of ooohs and aahs as women entered the tent and were treated to the silver and white flower arrangements created by April’s Garden. One beautiful “flower sculpture” featured a crown of silver barbed wire over white roses with white orchids hanging like fragrant chandeliers from the arrangement.

Men Who Grill raises $16,000 for WRC programs; more than 800 attend event
From the throngs of people who feasted on grilled tenderloin, shrimp wrapped in bacon, and “crows legs” dipped in a special secret sauce to the grill teams who cooked and fed them, it seemed that everyone loved the new venue in Buckley Park for the 10th annual Men Who Grill held Saturday, June 1.
More than 800 people attended the event to eat their fill of grilled goodies prepared by 16 amateur (and one or two professional) grill chefs, who turned up the heat on the competition this year. Teams prepared such delights as Greek Salad on a Stick to accompany grilled souvlaki with Tzatziki sauce. Or what about bacon-wrapped shrimp breaded in panko crumbs and deep-fried in a dutch oven on a grill? Did we forget to mention that the shrimp was accompanied by fried pickles? Yum!
