Free Pro-se Divorce Clinic offered May 13

The Southwest Colorado Bar Association and Colorado Legal Services will offer a free Pro-se (Do-It-Yourself) Divorce Clinic from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Monday, May 13, at the Durango Public Library. Attorneys will explain the paperwork and procedures required to file for divorce on your own. The Women’s Resource Center has complete divorce packets for $5. Call 247-1242.

Low-cost legal consultations now offered once a month through Women’s Resource Center

The Women’s Resource Center now offers low-cost, one-on-one consultations with attorney Sari Benmeier for women who plan to file their own paperwork for divorce or custody actions. The next appointments are available on Monday, May 20. Deadline to make an appointment is noon on Friday, May 17. Cost is $5 per hour per client.

To participate, clients MUST FIRST ATTEND the Pro-se Divorce Clinic offered from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on the second Monday of the month at the Durango Public Library. No exceptions. Clients also must sign and waiver and pay the $5 fee in advance confirm the appointment. The service is made possible by a generous grant from the Colorado Bar Foundation with support from the law firm of Goldman, Robbins and Nicholson, P.C. Next Womenade scheduled for Monday, May 20

Womenade, a grassroots organization that provides emergency financial assistance to individuals through one-time grants, will meet at 5:30 p.m. on Monday, May 20, at the Rochester Hotel. This month’s theme calls for women to “Spring into Action” and help a woman in need. Participants are asked to bring a potluck dish to share, $25 for the donation fund, and a friend. They’ll then vote for the recipients of the money raised that evening. ALL proceeds directly benefit the recipients. NO money is used for administrative costs. Womenade funds have been used to help women with emergency car repairs, dental work, medical bills, and other emergencies. For more information, contact the Women’s Resource Center at 247-1242.

Free business consultations offered Monday, May 6

A representative from the Southwest Colorado Small Business Development Center will offer free one-hour business consultations from Noon to 4 p.m. on Monday, June 3, at the Women’s Resource Center. The consultations are for women who want to start or expand their business and already have a solid idea for a business plan. Call 247-1242 for an appointment.
